Transtition program 2

TRANSITION OF THE SOW

The farrowing process needs to be between four and six hours. Therefore, a smooth birth process is of major importance for the productivity of a sow and her litter. This period encompasses substantial changes and, therefore, physiological and metabolic challenges for the sow. There is a rapid shift in nutrient requirements (gestation to lactation) and nutrient partitioning to support a smooth farrowing process and switch to milk production both to maximise piglet survivability.

The AHV Transition Programme focuses on the period before and after farrowing and supports the sow to withstand the rigorous demands of increased productivity. In this way, we contribute to optimal sow performance and piglet development.

How we work

With increasing production levels, there is an equally increased pressure on the sow’s health and piglet survival, especially in highly-prolific sows. The AHV Transition Programme gives the sow the additional support that she needs in this challenging period from gestation to successful lactation. Our products are designed to manage this metabolic transition from gestation to the initiation of the farrowing process and the milk production, for her well-being and that of her offspring.

Benefits

Technology

AHV FarrowPREP is a well-balanced addition to transition feed, especially focusing on farms that experience challenges during the transition, e.g., prolonged farrowing, high level of stillbirth and slow start of colostrum production. The AHV Transition Programme for the sow consists of different effective supplements, supporting the sow in physiological and metabolic changes, and focuses on key parameters for successful farrowing, such as still birth, survival rate and piglet growth rate.

Animal health

The AHV Transition Programme supports the sow in physiological challenges associated with the transition period, enabling her to withstand the rigorous demands of increased productivity. A healthy sow in transition to lactation will have a short and smooth farrowing process and produce a sufficient amount of colostrum, which has a direct effect on the piglets’ chances of survival.

Financial

The AHV Transition Programme promotes ease of farrowing, without complications such as birth help support, and requirements for injectables. Quick recovery is vital to the health of both the sow and the newborn piglets, impacting positively the neonatal piglet survival rate and labour intensity.
